ecolage

vines, local garbage & organic materials scavenged from the river banks, rebar, wire.   five figures, 8 – 9 feet tall 1995

Public artwork commissioned by the City of Toronto. Built on site on the banks of the Don River as part of an initiative to reinvigorate/ reanimate/ naturalize the valley, which is crisscrossed by freeways, rail lines & subway lines that choke the vegetation and wildlife. The river itself has been variously dredged and rerouted and is choked with garbage and effluent. These figures represent a sort of contingent of beings sent to remedy the situation. The work was slowly reabsorbed by the landscape from whence it came (over about 10 years).
